TUSTIN, Calif., June 20, 2023 – Specright, the leader in Specification Management software, today announced the winners of its first annual Spec Awards, honoring the change-makers that have successfully implemented a spec-first approach to drive efficiency, innovation, and sustainability.
All Specright customers were encouraged to apply for this opportunity to highlight their implementation of a spec-first approach to make amazing things and propel their organization's digital transformation. After careful consideration and panel review of all submissions, the winners in each category are:
Efficiency Award: Jack in the Box
By implementing Spec Compliance Dashboards, quality managers at Jack in the Box were able to save up to 60% of time that would have otherwise been spent on populating Spec Compliance Reports. In return, suppliers received nearly immediate feedback on specification compliance once the data was entered.
“Ensuring efficiency in managing our spec-level data is crucial for our business, and with Specright's platform we have been able to do just that,” said Jeff Chen, Quality Systems Manager at Jack in the Box. “We have seen tremendous growth and higher productivity with Specright’s platform given the amount of reporting time saved, allowing quality managers to take on other projects.”
Visionary Award: Central Garden & Pet
The team at Central Garden & Pet implemented Specright’s patented Specification Data Management™ platform to transform its business operations and ensure that its finished goods and raw material specifications can be located in one singular location, replacing outdated and manual ways of tracking data. With a spec-first approach, the company is able to utilize digitized specification data for driving metrics and improvements that were not being used before.
“I am excited that Central Garden and Pet was chosen to receive the Visionary Award, said Paul Gray, Director of Continuous Improvement at Central Garden & Pet. “I want to thank Specright for their support and drive to get us to where we are today. We have been working with the Specright team for the last 5 years to develop our current capability portfolio spanning from specifications to project management/tracking as well as additional capabilities. It has been a long journey, but well worth it as we are seeing the benefits of having specifications readily available in one place and utilizing them to control processes and leverage costs. We are continuing to implement and develop capabilities to support our Continuous Improvement journey and will always be Visionary in this area.”
Sustainability Award: Dermalogica
With the Specright platform, Dermalogica is able to easily track and report on sustainability goals and progress (like maintaining an overall PCR usage of 51% in its plastic components) while also supporting retailer sustainability initiatives. By having a single source of data for all the company’s packaging components, performing the calculations necessary to understand its sustainability status at any time is easy.
“Specright’s platform has been an essential tool in our work towards 2025 packaging sustainability goals as it allows us to easily track our progress using dashboards that show our component recyclability percentages, ” said Toko Weaver, Packaging Engineer at Dermalogica. “With Specright, we are also able to create specific reports on PCR percentages and material usage by annual volume while having the flexibility to add new fields such as recyclability instructions to further the depth of data that we can record for each of our finished goods. Thank you to the Specright team for this honor and for providing us a seamless way in storing all of our packaging data so we can focus our time on progressing our sustainability initiatives.”
Industry Innovator: Taylor Farms
Taylor Farms utilizes Specright’s platform on a daily basis to help ensure the food producer is reaching the best food quality in the least amount of time. With digitized specification data, the company can review the ingredients for the Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and confirm that suppliers are meeting FDA regulations for all ingredients that are part of Taylor Farms’ products.
“Since our partnership with Specright began over five years ago, we have used the platform not only to digitize and create a central source of truth for our specifications, but to also help re-imagine workflows within our organization to drive efficiencies in data management and accessibility,” said Andrew Kesler, Corporate Director of Supplier Food Safety and Compliance Systems at Taylor Farms. “As Taylor Farms continues to expand across North America, the ability of Specright to scale efficiently and quickly is a huge benefit to our company. Management of Certificates of Analyses from thousands of suppliers across 21 Taylor Farms manufacturing plants is just one example of how innovation in the Specright user experience at the plant level is supporting our continued growth.”
Honorable Mention: Tingley Rubber
Specright’s Honorable Mention goes to Tingley Rubber, a company that is now more efficient with their quality data. With a spec-first approach and access to real-time data, the company has saved a large amount of time and resources by not having to manually extract and manipulate data every month.
“On behalf of the entire team at Specright, I want to congratulate all of the winners for their outstanding accomplishments in propelling each of their organizations forward by implementing a spec-first approach,” said Matthew Wright, Founder and CEO of Specright. “All of these organizations – along with every other company that entered a submission – set a high standard and example for what can be accomplished with digitized specifications.”
All award winners will be honored at the 2024 Specification Management Summit which will be hosted in Austin, Texas from Jan. 31 - Feb. 2. Contact us to be notified when registration opens for the 2024 event here.
