Irvine, CA, April 13, 2021 — Specright awarded its first annual scholarship to four packaging students, two from Michigan State University, one from UW Stout, and one from Rutgers University. The scholarship recognizes students who understand the importance of Specification Management in packaging.

“Given the importance of packaging, we want to help future generations of professionals grow so they can drive the next wave of packaging innovation,” Matthew Wright, Founder and CEO of Specright, said. “These students are digital natives and expect technology to be a critical part of packaging development. This unique skill set will help drive future innovation in packaging.”

The scholarship is a natural extension of Specright’s Academia program, which enables packaging programs at universities to use Specright in the classroom. The program provides students with access to Specright’s leadership team, hands-on experience using its Specification Management platform, and an understanding of and how to analyze data to drive business outcomes.

“When working in such a technical business like flexible packaging, where controlling hundreds of variables is indispensable, it immediately becomes apparent that a system to store conditions is indispensable,” Gabriela Yarhi, scholarship recipient and Masters in Packaging Science student at Michigan State University, said. “A system like specright can help store these specifications to ensure the correct conditions for every production, and also for the future.”

Students have also leveraged their knowledge of Specright to get internships and be more competitive in the workforce.

“I got an internship because I learned how to use Specright at school,” Nancy Lei, scholarship recipient and packaging engineer intern at Glossier, said. “Specright has helped me improve my efficiency at work tremendously, it’s incredibly powerful.”

Specright hopes to narrow the tribal knowledge gap by teaching students how to digitize and better capture packaging data. “Oftentimes, a packaging engineer’s first job is managing data,” Wright added. “With Specright, we want to enable young professionals to spend more time on innovation and problem solving and less time chasing data in that first role.”
