Specright awarded its second annual scholarship to three packaging students from UW Stout and Michigan State University. The scholarship is available to students in all packaging programs Specright is partnered with.

This year, the scholarship is recognizing packaging students with innovative ideas on how to approach sustainability using Specification Management. Students were asked to write a paper on which three sustainability metrics they think are critical to the future of  industry and how those metrics work together as a multidimensional approach to sustainability.

“It is stated that about 40% of the world's plastics waste comes from the packaging industry alone, which is staggering – considering the packaging industry is still rapidly growing. With this understanding, we must prioritize innovation, but sustainable innovation,” said Brandon Coleman, MSU Packaging student and scholarship winner.

The scholarship is a part of Specright’s Academia program, which enables packaging programs at universities to use Specright in the classroom. The program provides students with access to Specright’s leadership team, hands-on experience using its Specification Data Management platform, and an understanding of and how to analyze data to drive business outcomes.

“Given the importance of packaging, we want to help future generations of professionals grow and begin to think critically about how their work impacts our world,” said Matthew Wright, Founder and CEO of Specright. “These students will be driving the next wave of packaging innovation and that’s exciting.

”Specright’s goal is to continue to eradicate tribal knowledge through supply chain digitization. By instilling better data management and practices early on in students’ careers, such as in the classroom, students can enter their first industry role innovating and optimizing, rather than spending time chasing data in spreadsheets and legacy, disparate systems.
